American scientists conducted a study involving over 1,000 participants with obesity or excess weight, divided into two groups. For six months, the first group ate one avocado daily, while the second group maintained their usual diet, consuming avocados only twice a month.
Eating one avocado daily did not lead to a clinically significant reduction in abdominal fat. Participants’ body weight and waist circumference remained unchanged. However, daily avocado consumption lowered total cholesterol by 2.9 mg/dL and bad cholesterol (LDL) by 2.5 mg/dL. According to Professor Penny Kris-Etherton from the University of Pennsylvania, this reduction is important for improving heart health.
The researchers emphasized that the first group followed a high-quality diet, which is crucial because a nutritious diet reduces the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer.
