Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia responded to Ukraine’s proposal for an Easter ceasefire with a massive drone attack, calling for “different signals” from Moscow.
According to the president, more than 700 drones — many of them Shahed-type — were launched over the course of the day, with Ukrainian forces intercepting about 90% of them. Despite the high interception rate, he stressed that it needs to be even higher.
Zelenskyy noted that he discussed this development with the U.S. side, emphasizing that such attacks demonstrate Russia’s real stance on ceasefire proposals. He added that a genuine pause in fighting during Easter could serve as a meaningful signal that diplomacy is possible.
Ukraine, he said, has openly proposed a temporary “silence regime” for the holiday, but instead continues to face strikes on energy infrastructure and civilian targets.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that no clear initiative on an Easter truce had been presented by Kyiv, while analysts from the Institute for the Study of War say Russia shows no real interest in a ceasefire or negotiations.
