Donald Trump said on March 30 via Truth Social that the United States is engaged in serious negotiations with a “new, smarter regime” aimed at ending military operations in Iran.
“Significant progress has been made, but if for any reason a deal is not reached soon (though it likely will be), and if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately ‘opened for business,’ we will end our wonderful ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely destroying all of their power plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalination facilities!), which we have deliberately not touched so far,” Trump wrote.
The U.S. president added that such actions would be retaliation for American soldiers and others whom Iran had allegedly tortured and killed over 47 years of what he called the “reign of terror” of the previous regime.
Earlier, Iran denied holding direct negotiations with the United States. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that messages from Washington are being conveyed only through intermediaries. He also described the U.S. 15-point list of demands to end the conflict as “largely excessive, unrealistic, and unjustified.”
