Zelensky says Ukraine-Russia-US talks in Abu Dhabi have not been canceled amid Iran tensions
The planned continuation of talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States in Abu Dhabi, scheduled for early March, has not been postponed, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters.
“No updated information so far. The meeting was scheduled for around March 5-6 in Abu Dhabi,” Zelensky said. He added that ongoing hostilities make it uncertain whether the talks will take place in Abu Dhabi, but emphasized that no one has canceled the meeting. “The meeting is important for us, we support it. Both the meeting itself and its outcomes, as well as the exchange [of prisoners], are very important,” he noted.
Background on Ukraine-Russia negotiations
Since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine has held several rounds of talks with Russia. The main unresolved issue remains control over the non-occupied territories of Donbas. Russia insists on the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops, Ukraine proposes freezing positions along the front line, and the United States supports creating free economic zones in these areas.
According to Bloomberg, citing informed sources, the next round of negotiations is expected on March 4-5 and is anticipated to be decisive. Previously, Reuters reported that Ukraine and the U.S. were discussing the possibility of a peace agreement with Russia as early as March this year.
