Donald Trump said Iran wants to begin negotiations with the United States to end the war, but argued that it is already “too late” for talks. He made the remarks on his social media platform, Truth Social.
According to Trump, Iran’s air defenses, air force, navy and senior leadership have been destroyed.
“They want negotiations. I said: ‘Too late!’” he wrote.
Timeline of the U.S. operation
The joint U.S.-Israeli operation against Iran began on February 28, with a series of strikes on Iranian territory. The most significant reported outcome was the elimination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
On March 1, Trump outlined the expected timeframe of the military campaign, stating that the active phase of hostilities would last no longer than four weeks. He said this timeline had been part of the strategic planning from the outset.
Trump emphasized that despite the intensity of the conflict and Iran’s retaliatory attempts, U.S. military capabilities would allow the operation to be completed on schedule — or even sooner.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are trying to persuade Trump not to prolong the war. One of the concerns cited is a shortage of critically important Patriot air defense missiles needed to intercept Iranian ballistic rockets.
