Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom and former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, said it is inappropriate for Ukraine’s internal political issues to become topics of international discussion.
Speaking after a recent interview in which he commented on tensions with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Zaluzhnyi said that while the war with Russia continues it is too early to talk about his potential participation in future elections.
He stressed that domestic political matters should remain a taboo in international discourse. According to him, questions about elections can only be discussed after the war ends and martial law in Ukraine is lifted.
In the earlier interview, Zaluzhnyi said the 2023 counteroffensive struggled partly because Ukrainian forces lacked sufficient resources and had to spread troops along the front instead of forming a concentrated strike force. Zelenskyy responded that Ukraine needs a unified diplomatic position and that personal disagreements should be addressed later.
