The Burshtyn thermal power plant in Ivano-Frankivsk region stopped operations after a Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The shutdown left the city without heating and water supply. City officials say electricity could be restored within 48 hours, but the situation remains critical, according to Mayor Vasyl Andriieshyn.
About Burshtyn TPP
Burshtyn TPP is one of Ukraine’s largest thermal power plants, running on coal and natural gas, supplying electricity to much of Ivano-Frankivsk region. The plant was commissioned in 1965 and has a capacity of over 2,300 MW, with 12 energy units.
The strike also triggered emergency power outages in other areas of Prykarpattia. Explosions were reported in Burshtyn itself, caused by both drones and missiles. Other affected regions include Lviv and Ternopil, where energy infrastructure was damaged. In Ternopil, a missile hit a residential building, causing multiple building damages and at least two fatalities.
