On January 26, a technical failure occurred in the database system at the border with Poland, the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) reported on Facebook.
Advice for travelers
According to the SBGS, the technical issue affected all Polish border checkpoints adjacent to Lviv and Volyn regions.
“Specialists are currently working to resolve the issue,” the SBGS said, adding that travelers should take this information into account when planning their trips.
As of 10:34 AM on Monday, January 26, no significant vehicle buildup was recorded at the border in either direction. The SBGS also noted that further updates will be provided once full system functionality is restored.
Additionally, the SBGS later reported on Telegram that due to the situation, trains will be processed at a slower pace.
The official introduction of the biometric entry-exit system (EES) to the EU and Schengen countries began on October 12, 2025. However, not all checkpoints implemented the system simultaneously; some had a six-month rollout period. For example, the EES system at the Romanian border became operational on December 10.
Meanwhile, SBGS spokesperson Andriy Demchenko told RBC-Ukraine which Ukrainian Railways (UZ) trains are checked without stops, allowing travelers to cross the border faster.
The SBGS also provided guidance on entering Ukraine with an expired passport.
