In Ukraine, the widow of a deceased pensioner can receive a survivor’s pension if she meets the conditions established by law. This payment is granted for life or for the duration of her disability and equals 50% of her late husband’s pension.
According to the Law “On Mandatory State Pension Insurance,” women are eligible for this pension if they have reached retirement age or have been declared disabled. Another requirement is that the couple must have lived together at the time of death.
If the widow has not yet reached retirement age but is disabled, the pension is paid for as long as the disability lasts. For those who have reached retirement age, the payment is lifelong.
The pension amount equals half of the pension the deceased husband received or was entitled to.
For example, if the late husband’s pension was ₴6,850, the widow would receive ₴3,425 per month. Additionally, individuals over the age of 75 are entitled to a monthly supplement of ₴456.
To apply, the widow must contact the Pension Fund of Ukraine and submit the required documents — a death certificate, proof of joint residence, and confirmation of age or disability status.
This type of pension serves as an important form of financial support for elderly individuals who have lost their main source of income and rely on stable state assistance.
