The Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) on Thursday, October 23, adopted Resolution No. 13369, which stipulates that old-style Ukrainian passports will no longer include text in Russian.
The parliament’s press service reported the decision, which was supported by 265 members of parliament.
Under the amendments to the 1992 parliamentary resolution, all entries in Ukrainian citizen passports issued in booklet form must now be made exclusively in the state language.
At the same time, the previous provision concerning passports for traveling abroad has been declared invalid.
Since 2016, Ukrainian citizens have been issued biometric ID cards instead of paper booklets, with the last traditional passports printed in 2014.
A 1994-style passport can now be issued only following a court decision.
