According to the Pension Fund of Ukraine, pension payments may be suspended by a decision of territorial bodies of the Pension Fund or by a court ruling, in accordance with Article 49 of the Law of Ukraine On Mandatory State Pension Insurance. The main grounds for suspending pension payments include:

  • if the pension was granted on the basis of documents containing false or inaccurate information;
  • for the entire period of a pensioner’s residence abroad, unless otherwise provided by an international treaty of Ukraine approved by the Verkhovna Rada;
  • at the pensioner’s request to suspend payments due to temporary residence abroad;
  • in the event of the pensioner’s death, declaration as missing, or declaration as deceased in accordance with the law;
  • if the pensioner is granted the status of a person missing under special circumstances, in line with the Law of Ukraine On the Legal Status of Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances;
  • if the assigned pension is not received for six consecutive months;
  • if the pensioner fails to undergo physical identification in cases предусмотрені by law.
  • Resumption of pension payments

Pension payments are resumed by a decision of the territorial body of the Pension Fund within 10 days after the relevant circumstances are clarified and the conditions for resuming payments are met.

If false or inaccurate data are identified in the documents or information on the basis of which the pension was granted and/or paid, the territorial body of the Pension Fund of Ukraine reviews the amount and grounds for pension payments in accordance with the Law On Mandatory State Pension Insurance, without taking such data into account.
