Due to the severe consequences of recent Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the government will introduce a state of emergency in the energy sector.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky. He emphasized that the damage caused by Russia’s attacks is extremely serious, and the worsening weather conditions make the situation even more difficult. Repair crews, energy companies, rescue services, and municipal workers are currently working around the clock to restore electricity and heating.

However, because many issues require urgent solutions, an emergency regime in the energy sector will be declared. A permanent coordination headquarters will be established in Kyiv to oversee the response. “A state of emergency will be introduced across Ukraine’s energy sector. The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy will be appointed to lead efforts to support citizens and communities and address practical issues,” Zelensky said.

Another priority will be strengthening cooperation with international partners to obtain equipment and support needed to restore the power system.

“The Cabinet of Ministers will ensure maximum deregulation of procedures for connecting backup energy equipment to the grid for the duration of this situation. We are also working to significantly increase electricity imports to Ukraine,” Zelensky added.
