During the night, Ukrainians turned their clocks back one hour, marking the annual switch to winter time. The transition traditionally takes place at the end of October, and this year it occurred in the early hours of October 26.
The time change in Ukraine is regulated by a 1996 Cabinet of Ministers resolution, “On the Procedure for Time Calculation in Ukraine.” In 2011, Ukraine briefly adopted a decision to cancel the switch to daylight saving time, but it was later revoked. Since then, the issue has been raised several times, though no permanent decision has been made.
Every year, the transition to winter time happens on the last Sunday of October at 4:00 a.m. In 2025, clocks were moved back one hour overnight from October 25 to 26.
Most modern devices adjust the time automatically, while mechanical clocks must be set manually.
It is worth noting that in July 2024, the Verkhovna Rada passed draft law No. 4201 “On Time Calculation in Ukraine,” which aimed to abolish seasonal time changes. However, the law did not take effect, as it was not signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
