Dynamo Kyiv has decided to dismiss the team’s coaching staff led by Oleksandr Shovkovskyi.
The decision comes after a series of poor performances, including three consecutive defeats in European competitions, according to the club’s official statement. Ihor Kostiuk, who previously coached Dynamo’s U-19 team with notable success in developing young talent, has been appointed as acting head coach.
Kostiuk now faces the difficult task of stabilizing the team’s performance and improving the players’ psychological condition. Alongside the head coach, his assistants — Oleh Husyev and Serhiy Fedorov — have also been dismissed.
Shovkovskyi recently took over the role of head coach and managed to win the domestic league title, but the team’s results in European competitions were disappointing.
Dynamo’s upcoming matches are scheduled for December 1 and December 11, against Poltava and Italy’s Fiorentina. These games will be the first test for Kostiuk in his new position, with the Fiorentina match particularly important for the club’s European campaign.
Earlier, Shovkovskyi admitted that the team often only starts playing actively after problems arise on the pitch.
