Games are coming soon.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry confirmed that Russian athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympics will compete under a neutral status, even if a peace agreement is reached in Ukraine.

“This does not change the already adopted decision: only neutral athletes competing individually,” Coventry said, according to Corriere.it.

The 2026 Winter Olympics will be held from February 6 to 22 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

Russian and Belarusian athletes will only be allowed to compete as neutral individuals.

For context, at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, 15 Russian athletes and 16 Belarusian athletes competed under a neutral status.
