Former Spanish internationals Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba have retired from professional football after playing for Inter Miami.
The veterans helped the American club secure its first-ever MLS title, with the final match also marking the end of their careers. Inter Miami defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 in the championship game. Both players had previously announced that this would be their final season.
Busquets, 37, played as a defensive midfielder. A product of Barcelona’s youth academy, he made his debut for the Catalan club in 2008 and played over 700 games for Barcelona until 2023, winning numerous trophies including nine La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League trophies. With Spain, he won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship, earning 143 caps and scoring two international goals.
Alba, 36, a left-back, became a Barcelona legend after moving from Valencia in 2012. By 2023, he had played over 450 matches for Barcelona, winning six La Liga titles and one Champions League. For Spain, he earned 93 caps, scored nine goals, and won Euro 2012 and the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.
