Tyson Fury may face a Russian opponent in his comeback fight.

British heavyweight boxing star Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KO) is reportedly planning to resume his career with a bout against Russian-born fighter Arslanbek Mahmudov (21-2, 19 KO).

According to analyst Gareth Davies, Fury’s team is considering the matchup, and Everything Boxing notes that the fight could take place in April if both sides reach an agreement.

Mahmudov, 36, gained attention after defeating Britain’s David Allen by judges’ decision in October. Although Russian by origin, he competes under the Canadian flag, having lived in Canada since 2017.

Fury, 37, lost two consecutive bouts to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024 and subsequently retired. Known as the "Gypsy King," he has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to the ring. While there has been talk of a potential fight against Anthony Joshua next year, Mahmudov could serve as an intermediate opponent before that matchup.
