Ukrainian freestyle skier wins historic medal in the United States

Ukrainian freestyle skier Kateryna Kotsar has claimed a historic medal for Ukraine.

At a World Cup stage in the United States, the 25-year-old athlete finished second, earning Ukraine’s first-ever medal in the Big Air discipline.

This was Kotsar’s third World Cup appearance of the current season. She was beaten only by Canada’s Naomi Urness. Kotsar’s silver medal became Ukraine’s second award of the 2025/26 Olympic season in freestyle skiing, following Oleksandr Okipniuk’s victory in ski aerials.

Big Air has been part of the Olympic program since 2018 and is considered one of the most spectacular disciplines in freestyle skiing.

At the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Ukraine won just one silver medal, which was secured in ski aerials by Oleksandr Abramenko.
