Serbian police have detained two suspects accused of plotting to assassinate President Aleksandar Vučić and members of his family, as well as preparing attacks on Interior Ministry personnel, authorities said.
The Ministry of Interior of Serbia identified the suspects as D.R. (born 1975) and M.R. (born 1983), both from Kraljevo. Investigators allege the pair spent several months — from December 2025 to February 2026 — planning actions aimed at violently overthrowing the country’s highest state institutions. According to police, they intended to acquire weapons and carry out attacks against Vučić, his wife, and his children, and also planned assaults on ministry officers “to inflict bodily harm.”
Authorities said the suspects will be held for up to 48 hours before being transferred, along with criminal complaints, to the higher prosecutor’s office.
The case recalls a separate incident in May 2024, when Slovak writer Juraj Cintula shot and wounded Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, later saying he acted because he disagreed with government policies, including its stance on military aid to Ukraine.
