On the night of December 27, Denis Kapustin (callsign WhiteRex, also known as Nikitin), commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), was killed while carrying out a combat mission on the Zaporizhzhia front. According to preliminary reports, the fatal strike was caused by an FPV drone, the RDK Telegram channel stated.
The RDK emphasized that further details about Kapustin’s death will be released later. “We will avenge you, Denis. Your cause lives on,” the unit said.
About the RDK
The Russian Volunteer Corps is a unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, formed in August 2022 by Russian nationals to defend Ukraine against the Russian invasion. It is part of the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine.
RDK fighters operate in various combat zones, including Avdiivka, Zaporizhzhia, Lyman, and near the Russian border regions. Membership includes former Russian soldiers captured or defected, as well as Russian expatriates living in Ukraine and other European countries.
In November 2022, the “Civic Council,” consisting of public figures from nine Russian regions, announced recruitment of volunteers for national units within the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including the RDK.
In summer 2022, the RDK was attached to the 1st Company of the 98th Territorial Defense Battalion “Azov” on the Zaporizhzhia-Donetsk front. Notably, on January 24, 2023, RDK fighters participated in a night raid on the Nova Kakhovka riverbank, eliminating at least 12 Russian occupiers, destroying a BTR-82A, and capturing one prisoner. The operation also provided Ukrainian intelligence with detailed data on enemy forces and deployments.
