SBU drones have halted operations at an oil platform in the Caspian Sea. This marks the first time Ukraine has struck a Russian facility involved in oil extraction in the region.
According to sources, long-range drones from the SBU’s “Alpha” Special Operations Center targeted the Filanovsky oil platform, owned by Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft.
Reports indicate this is Ukraine’s first attack on Russian oil infrastructure in the Caspian Sea. At least four direct hits were recorded on the platform, temporarily stopping oil and gas production from over 20 wells it services.
The Filanovsky field is one of Russia’s largest explored fields in the Caspian sector, with reserves of 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas. Extracted resources were exported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.
“Ukraine’s SBU continues successful operations against Russia’s oil and gas sector, constantly expanding their reach. The strike in the Caspian Sea is another reminder to Russia that all its enterprises supporting the war are legitimate targets, no matter where they are located,” a knowledgeable SBU source said.
