U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States achieved a “complete and total victory” following a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran.
Speaking in an interview with Agence France-Presse, Trump stated: “This is a complete and total victory. 100 percent. Without a doubt.” However, he did not specify whether he would follow through on previous threats to destroy Iran’s civilian infrastructure if Tehran violates the agreement, adding only: “We’ll see.”
According to CNN, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council also declared a “victory” amid the ceasefire. In a statement, Iranian officials claimed that “almost all war objectives have been achieved,” and that Iran’s forces had pushed the enemy into a state of “historical helplessness and final defeat.”
Iranian state media reported that a 10-point peace plan proposed by Tehran includes regulation of passage through the Strait of Hormuz, cessation of attacks on Iran and its regional proxies, withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region, compensation for Iran, lifting of international sanctions, unfreezing of assets, and a binding UN resolution to secure a final peace agreement.
The statement added: “Our hands remain on the trigger, and if the enemy makes even the slightest mistake, it will be met with full force.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on social media that Washington had accepted the “general framework” of Iran’s 10-point proposal as a basis for negotiations, while Tehran is reviewing a 15-point U.S. proposal. He added that if attacks on Iran stop, its armed forces will halt defensive operations, and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz could be ensured through coordination with Iranian forces.
Trump later reposted Araghchi’s statement on Truth Social and accused CNN of spreading the Iranian National Security Council’s claim, calling it fake. He insisted that Iran’s official position is reflected in Araghchi’s remarks, which he described as softer than the Supreme Security Council’s statements about a U.S. “defeat.”
The two-week ceasefire comes after Trump said the U.S. had already “completed and exceeded all military objectives” and was moving toward a long-term peace agreement with Iran and broader stability in the Middle East.
