Donald Trump said the United States barely uses oil transported through the Strait of Hormuz and that countries dependent on this route should secure it themselves or buy energy from the U.S.
He stated that America is not planning to rely on oil shipments through the strait and emphasized that affected countries “should take responsibility” for protecting the route. According to Trump, the U.S. could assist in such efforts, but the initiative must come from other states.
He also offered an alternative: countries facing energy disruptions could purchase oil from the United States, which he said has sufficient supplies.
Trump made these remarks following heightened tensions after military actions involving the U.S. and Iran, which led to disruptions in the strategic waterway used for a significant share of global oil and gas transport.
