The European Union has made corrections to remarks by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas regarding the alleged “departure” of the US embassy from Kyiv.

According to information published on the official website of the European External Action Service (EEAS), references to the United States in the context of diplomatic presence in Kyiv were removed from the revised version of the statement.

The updated wording now states that all European embassies continue to operate in the Ukrainian capital, while the earlier mention of the US was omitted.

“Also, yesterday we heard from Ukraine that all embassies remain*, so this also requires courage from those embassies, but yes, all Europeans remain*. (*Updated with correction regarding diplomatic presence in Kyiv),” the revised statement reads.

What preceded this

Earlier, media reported comments attributed to Kaja Kallas suggesting that all embassies in Kyiv remained open except the US mission, while European diplomatic missions continued their work.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry later denied reports that the US embassy had left Kyiv due to Russian threats, stating that such information did not correspond to reality.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi also rejected the claim, emphasizing that the US diplomatic presence in Kyiv remains unchanged.

At the same time, presidential communications adviser Dmytro Lytvyn noted that American diplomats did temporarily leave Kyiv on the night of Sunday, May 25.
