The Kremlin has responded to the latest drone attack on Moscow by warning of potential retaliatory strikes against Ukraine.
Russian officials claimed that air defenses intercepted most of the drones targeting the Russian capital, while Kremlin representatives accused Ukraine of escalating attacks on Russian territory. In response, Moscow signaled that further strikes against Ukrainian targets could follow.
According to Russian statements, the attack on Moscow and surrounding areas was presented as justification for what the Kremlin described as “necessary measures” to protect Russian security interests.
The comments came after reports that Ukrainian drones reached the area of the Moscow Oil Refinery, a key fuel facility supplying the Russian capital. Footage circulating online showed smoke and fire near the site, although the full extent of the damage remains unclear.
Russian authorities have repeatedly used drone attacks on their territory as grounds for launching new missile and drone strikes against Ukraine. Meanwhile, Kyiv maintains that attacks on military, energy, and logistics infrastructure inside Russia are aimed at reducing Moscow’s ability to wage war.
