Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the G7 summit in France delivered important results for Ukraine, including agreements to strengthen the country’s air-defense capabilities.
“There will be new steps to increase pressure on Russia over the war — pressure aimed at achieving peace. Our partners will provide support for our defense and energy resilience,” Zelensky said.
According to the president, G7 leaders reached a common understanding of the main challenges facing Ukraine and the specific measures needed to address them. He stressed that international unity is helping reduce Russia’s ability to continue its “unjustified and criminal aggression.”
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said European leaders and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed on the importance of continuing support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian forces. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also noted that Washington’s position on the war has become more realistic.
Earlier, G7 leaders adopted a joint statement pledging stronger military assistance for Ukraine, tougher sanctions against Russia, and additional support for Ukraine’s energy sector to help the country withstand future attacks and prepare for the coming winter.
