President of the United States Donald Trump announced upcoming peace talks with Iran in Pakistan following an agreement on a two-week ceasefire.
According to The New York Post, Trump said that Pakistan has offered to host the summit in Islamabad in the near future.
The US president noted that the negotiating team could include special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and possibly Vice President J.D. Vance, although his participation has not yet been confirmed due to security concerns.
“We will have Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, JD — maybe JD, I don’t know. There are security issues,” Trump explained.
He emphasized that he expects a personal meeting with the Iranian side “very soon,” indicating that the ceasefire is seen by Washington as an interim step toward a lasting agreement.
Earlier, Trump said the United States was ready for a two-week ceasefire with Iran if a peace deal could be reached during that time. In response, Iran pledged to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks.
At the same time, in an interview with Sky News, Trump warned that Washington is ready to resume military action if the agreement does not meet US conditions.
