Ukraine is ready to discuss with European partners the possibility of introducing localized ceasefire formats with Russia, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said during comments to journalists. He noted that this could include several targeted options such as an “airport ceasefire,” an “energy ceasefire,” or a “port ceasefire,” depending on which specific area is chosen for testing. The idea, according to him, is not to implement a broad general truce immediately, but to focus on one concrete case, set clear time limits, and assess whether it produces real results.
Sybiha stressed that Ukraine wants this approach to be discussed in detail with EU foreign ministers and also communicated to the Russian side. The emphasis is on selecting a single, practical track that could demonstrate whether limited ceasefire mechanisms are actually workable in conditions of ongoing war.
The proposal comes amid continued Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure and stalled broader peace efforts involving international mediators. Ukrainian officials present these localized ceasefires as a pragmatic, step-by-step alternative rather than a full agreement to end hostilities at this stage.
