Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that a peace agreement is roughly 90% ready, but the remaining complex issues will be decisive.
For this week’s talks on Ukraine in Paris, the United States will be represented by President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his relative and political advisor Jared Kushner, according to a White House official cited by Reuters.
The American delegates are expected to join the meeting of the so-called Coalition of the Willing, a group of countries prepared to work more actively on ways to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte will also participate. The Alliance’s press service reported that he will arrive in Paris on Tuesday, January 6, for talks jointly organized by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Amid these diplomatic contacts, President Zelensky said in his New Year’s address that the war could end in 2026 if international pressure on Russia is significantly increased. According to the Ukrainian president, the text of the potential peace agreement is approximately 90% agreed upon, but the remaining unresolved points will be decisive for the future of Ukraine, Europe, and the entire security system of the continent.
