UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that growing global instability, linked to the war in Iran, makes it necessary for the United Kingdom to strengthen cooperation with the European Union on both security and economic issues.
Speaking at a press conference focused on public concerns over rising energy prices, Starmer warned that the consequences of the conflict could shape global conditions “for a generation” and may resemble the energy shocks of the 1970s.
He emphasized the need for a more ambitious level of cooperation with Europe, including closer economic and security ties based on shared values and interests.
His remarks came after criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump, who urged European countries, including the UK, to take greater responsibility for their own defense and suggested that the United States may reduce its support.
Analysts interpret Starmer’s позицію as an effort to reinforce Britain’s strategic role in Europe while adapting to a more uncertain transatlantic relationship.
