US President Donald Trump said on Friday, October 16, that he knew details about the Russia-Ukraine war that he might disclose at a later date.
Responding to questions about his criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump was reminded by reporters that Russian President Vladimir Putin had started the war against Ukraine.
“I know details, okay? And at some point, I’ll be revealing those details. But there’s only one thing that interests me: I want this war to end,” Trump said.
He added that he was negotiating with both leaders and believed that Putin and Zelenskyy wanted the war to end.
“I think both leaders — I deal with both of them — also want this war to end. And I think it will end,” the US president said.
Trump also claimed that an average of 25,000 military personnel were being killed each month in the war, adding that the figure had risen to 32,000 last month.
Tensions between Washington and Kyiv have resurfaced over disagreements about how to end the war and the timing of elections in Ukraine.
Earlier in October, Trump accused Zelenskyy of failing to make sufficient efforts to reach a peace deal with Russia and called for a change in Ukraine’s leadership.
In response, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready to hold elections if Russia agreed to a 60-day ceasefire.
