Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has responded to remarks by Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov, who said his country plans to stop supplying weapons to Ukraine and argued that Kyiv needs “more people, not more weapons.”
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi stressed that Ukraine does not receive free military aid from Bulgaria. Instead, the two countries cooperate on a commercial basis in the defense sector.
According to Tykhyi, the partnership benefits both sides: Ukraine receives much-needed weapons and ammunition, while Bulgarian defense companies gain opportunities to expand production and increase revenues.
“We are grateful to Bulgaria for making such projects possible and highly value our cooperation with its defense companies,” Tykhyi said. He added that stronger military capabilities help Ukraine move closer to peace.
“The stronger Ukraine is, the more capabilities it has, the more strength it possesses, the sooner peace will come,” he noted.
The comments come amid growing debate in Bulgaria over future military cooperation with Ukraine and the role of the country’s defense industry in supplying weapons during the ongoing war.
