Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready to share its experience in helping to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, but no official request from allies has been received so far.
In an interview with Associated Press, Zelenskyy noted that partners have only asked Ukraine to share its experience rather than provide direct assistance.
He emphasized that Ukraine has unique experience in reopening maritime routes due to the war in the Black Sea, where Russia attempted to block Ukrainian shipping lanes using a wide range of military means, including naval forces, missiles, and aviation.
“We destroyed part of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and forced them to withdraw from the corridor. Then we organized civilian shipping convoys with the help of naval drones to counter Russian helicopters and other attack assets,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that Ukraine’s grain corridor is now under control and functioning.
“We can share this experience with other countries, but no one has asked us to come and help with the Strait of Hormuz. Partners have only asked us to share our experience,” he said.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route, where disruptions have previously caused sharp increases in fuel prices and global market instability.
If you want, I can also explain why Ukraine’s Black Sea experience is considered relevant to Hormuz-style maritime blockades.
