Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced a new meeting with U.S. leader Donald Trump, planned for the end of January, to discuss the peace plan.
He made the statement during a briefing following talks with national security advisers from partner countries.
According to Zelenskyy, representatives of general staffs, including chiefs of staff and officials from the military sector of several countries, will depart for Europe as early as tomorrow.
“After that, there will be a leaders’ meeting, and the security documents will be finalized. The leaders will discuss many issues, but the focus will be on security guarantees and recovery,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that meetings with President Trump’s team will also take place during this process and will be held in Paris.
“They will last one day, or maybe two — we will see how things go. After that, I believe we will begin preparing for a leaders’ meeting in the United States in a broader format. We would like all of this to happen in January, by the end of the month,” the president noted.
Previous Zelenskyy–Trump meeting
On Sunday, December 28, Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump met in Florida. Following the talks, both leaders commented on the outcomes. Trump said there had been some progress on the Donbas issue, noting that a final decision had not yet been made but that the sides were closer to an agreement.
The U.S. president also announced the creation of a special working group on peace settlement, which will cooperate with senior U.S. officials and engage with the Russian side.
Zelenskyy, for his part, stated that the peace plan is 90% agreed upon, while U.S. security guarantees are finalized at 100%.
Earlier today, Donald Trump said he was not impressed with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, adding that he hopes to achieve progress in efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
