President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine has never officially participated in any operation to sabotage the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, while stressing that the investigation into the blasts is ongoing and involves Ukrainian nationals.
Speaking at the Ukraine–Nordic-Baltic Eight summit in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said there are allegations and witnesses in the case, and that the investigation must be allowed to establish what happened.
“The question is not who wants what,” Zelenskyy said, stressing that the legal process is underway.
He added that Ukraine has discussed the issue with Germany at the highest level and that its European partners know Kyiv was not behind either the planning or execution of the operation.
Ukraine ready to cooperate
Zelenskyy said Ukraine remains ready to assist its partners with the investigation. The Prosecutor General’s Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs are involved, while contacts with European counterparts are continuing.
The president stressed that maintaining trust and cooperation with European countries supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war remains important.
“We are open to joint steps in the investigation and to establishing all the circumstances of what happened,” Zelenskyy said.
The comments come after Croatia recently detained a Ukrainian citizen in connection with the Nord Stream investigation. The individual is reportedly Volodymyr Zhuravliov, for whom Germany issued an arrest warrant in June 2024.
