Ukrainians traveling abroad are being advised to obtain a passport stamp confirming their departure from Ukraine, as the document may help avoid difficulties when applying for temporary protection in EU countries.
The recommendation was issued by the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany following the EU’s new rules on temporary protection under Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/1912 of July 30, 2026.
The stamp serves as direct confirmation of the date a person left Ukraine and can help European migration authorities verify the legality of their departure.
Who needs the stamp
The embassy said the recommendation applies to all Ukrainians leaving the country. The stamp can be placed in the passport by Ukrainian border guards when crossing the border.
Those who have already left Ukraine can request official information about their border crossings from the Main Center for Processing Special Information of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service through its official website.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and diplomatic missions are expected to publish additional guidance on the new temporary protection procedures.
The changes follow the EU’s updated approach to temporary protection for displaced Ukrainians. The European Commission has also stressed that the new rules apply to both men and women and do not distinguish between applicants based on sex.
