Russia launched a massive overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv, Kyiv region and Odesa region on September 1, striking residential buildings and infrastructure and killing at least 12 people.

Four killed in Boryspil

The Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that the death toll from the Russian strike on Boryspil had risen to four people. Another 13 people were injured and are receiving medical treatment.

The attack damaged a five-story residential building, a shop, private houses, vehicles, an industrial facility and a car service station.

Rescuers evacuated 48 people from the damaged apartment building and pulled two people from the rubble.

Eight killed in Kyiv

In Kyiv, eight people were killed and seven injured, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported. Two of the injured are children, aged 13 and 15.

The Darnytskyi and Holosiivskyi districts were targeted by ballistic missiles. Seven people were killed in Darnytskyi district, including six employees of Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine’s state railway company.

The strike also hit a railway depot in the capital, where the seven victims were killed. Another railway employee was injured and taken to hospital.

According to the State Emergency Service, five Kyiv districts were affected by the attack.

Damage in Obukhiv district

In the village of Hryhorivka, drone debris damaged an infrastructure facility and two apartment buildings.

In Husachivka, 11 private houses, a garage and a passenger vehicle were damaged. A warehouse facility and a gas station were also hit, and one person was injured.

Emergency crews continue working at the affected sites.

Odesa region also attacked

Odesa region was also subjected to a large-scale combined overnight attack, regional governor Oleh Kiper said.

Civilian infrastructure was damaged and one person was injured.

Two residential buildings were damaged, while a fire broke out at a garment-production facility.

Russian forces also attacked the Orlivka international border checkpoint on the border with Romania. Emergency crews extinguished the fires at the site.

Zelenskyy condemns attack

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia plans its strikes to cause maximum destruction to civilian life.

“Russia always calculates its strikes in such a way as to destroy life as much as possible, and it succeeds only when there are not enough air-defense systems,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that the attack involved a large number of jet-powered drones and ballistic missiles and confirmed that an Indian citizen was among those killed.

The strike caused extensive damage to residential and civilian infrastructure across the capital and surrounding region.
