On the night of February 23, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 127 strike drones and a single Iskander-M ballistic missile, but Ukraine’s air defenses intercepted the majority of the assault, the Ukrainian Air Force reported on Telegram.
Details of the attack
The enemy launched one Iskander-M missile from Russia’s Rostov region.
126 strike drones of various types were used, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and others from six directions, with around 80 being Shahed drones.
Ukrainian defenses involved aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, drone defense systems, and mobile fire groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
By 08:00 local time, Ukrainian air defenses had intercepted or suppressed 105 enemy drones across northern, southern, and eastern regions. Despite these defenses, at least one ballistic missile and 20 drones struck 11 locations, and drone debris fell at one additional site.
Affected regions and casualties
Zaporizhzhia region – both the city of Zaporizhzhia and surrounding areas were targeted. One person was killed and another wounded.
Odesa region – strikes hit industrial, energy, and civilian infrastructure. Two civilians were killed (a 20-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man), and three others aged 23–45 were injured, two of them in serious condition.
The Ukrainian Air Force warned that enemy drones are still in the airspace and urged citizens to follow safety precautions.
This overnight attack reflects a continuing pattern of Russian missile and drone strikes targeting both civilian and critical infrastructure, while Ukraine’s air defenses continue to limit damage.
