Ukraine is ready to fight for several more years, but any combat actions for the sake of territory and resources must end.
This was stated by the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Brigadier General Oleksandr Pivnenko, in an interview with the BBC.
“We can still fight for several years, 100%. But I believe that, in general, wars must end. Killing people for territory and resources on this planet is something we do not understand. It must end,” Pivnenko said.
At the same time, the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine stressed that Ukrainians are tired of the full-scale war. “Everyone wants the war to end. But the main question for us is at what cost? Either it is a ceasefire, which I think everyone would agree on, and then a reassessment of further actions and agreements. Or the loss of territory. Let’s say this: we will give nothing away, I am confident,” added the brigadier general.
Security guarantees are needed to end the war
Ukraine is conducting trilateral negotiations with the United States and Russia to achieve a fast and fair end to the war. Despite some progress, several sensitive unresolved issues remain, including territorial ones.
At the same time, Ukraine and its partners are working on security guarantees that would be effective in the event of a new Russian invasion.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that concrete security guarantees for Ukraine could create conditions for setting a clear date for the end of the war, which continues not only on Ukrainian territory but also poses a threat to all of Europe.
Meanwhile, according to a new survey, Ukrainians are increasingly less confident in a quick end to the war with Russia. Only one in five expects it to end by mid-2026.
