At least seven people were killed in a series of explosions at the Krasnozavodsk Chemical Plant in Moscow region on October 1, according to the Russian Telegram channel SHOT. Russian authorities had not officially confirmed the death toll at the time of reporting.
At least three powerful explosions were reported at one of the plant’s workshops, followed by a fire and the collapse of the entire building. SHOT reported that the victims were inside Workshop No. 4 and that more workers may have been there when the explosions occurred.
Russian emergency services evacuated 40 people from the facility, while four others were initially reported missing. Rescue crews continued working at the site to contain the fire and search the damaged structure.
The cause of the explosions has not been established publicly.
The Krasnozavodsk Chemical Plant is part of Russia’s state-owned Rostec defense conglomerate. Ukraine’s military intelligence says the plant manufactures pyrotechnics and ammunition, including thermobaric warheads for Shahed-type Geran attack drones.
The plant was previously damaged in a Ukrainian strike in July 2025, according to a January 2026 report by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s Ukraine Air War Monitor.
