Russia’s Republic of Adygea came under a large-scale drone attack overnight on October 4, with a fire reportedly breaking out at the Khanskaya military airfield near Maykop, according to the OSINT monitoring channel Exilenova.
Around 5 a.m., the channel reported that residents of Maykop had heard explosions and were reporting a fire at the military airfield. About an hour later, Exilenova said the drone attack had continued throughout the night and published photos and videos showing drones in the sky and a fire.
The reports about the fire at Khanskaya have not been independently verified. Russian regional authorities had not publicly commented on the reported incident or issued an earlier warning about a drone threat in Adygea, according to local and Ukrainian media reports.
The Khanskaya airfield is located near Maykop and has previously been identified as a Russian military aviation facility. Ukrainian forces struck the airfield in October 2024 and again in March 2026, according to Ukrainian military and open-source reports.
Separately, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defenses had destroyed six drones flying toward Moscow. He did not link the reported activity in Moscow to the incident in Adygea.
The scale of any damage at the Khanskaya airfield, as well as the cause of the reported fire, remains unclear.
