Russian forces attacked Ukraine overnight on October 3 with 157 strike drones, including 45 jet-powered Shaheds, as well as Gerbera drones and Parodiya decoys, Ukraine’s Air Force said.
The drones were launched from four directions: Bryansk and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as temporarily occupied parts of Donetsk region and Crimea, according to the Air Force.
Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups were involved in repelling the attack.
As of 9 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed 131 Shahed, Gerbera and other drones, according to preliminary data.
Russian air attack weapons struck 12 locations, while debris from downed drones fell at five locations. The attack was still ongoing in the morning, with several Russian drones remaining in Ukrainian airspace.
The Russian forces also attacked the Odesa region in the morning with Banderol-type loitering munitions. The consequences of that strike were still being assessed.
The overnight barrage followed several days of attacks on key infrastructure in Kyiv. On October 3, a Russian drone also struck Kyiv’s Northern Bridge, damaging the roadway and trolleybus overhead power network and forcing traffic from the left bank to the right bank to be suspended.
