A Russian strike on October 5 damaged a bus and border infrastructure near the Palanca–Mayaki–Udobne checkpoint on the Moldova-Ukraine border, injuring one Moldovan border guard, according to Moldova’s Border Police.
The incident occurred at around 9:38 a.m. near the Palanca checkpoint. According to Moldovan authorities, a munition fell near the crossing, struck the ground, ricocheted and hit a scheduled bus parked near the barrier. The bus and a border control cabin were damaged.
One Moldovan border police officer sustained minor injuries. No other casualties were reported. Moldova’s Border Police and Customs Service are monitoring the situation and coordinating with Ukrainian authorities.
Operations at the Palanca–Mayaki–Udobne checkpoint have been temporarily suspended, and traffic toward the crossing has been blocked.
Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service confirmed that processing at the checkpoint was not operating and urged travelers to use alternative crossings, particularly the nearby Starokozache–Tudora checkpoint.
The incident occurred during a Russian attack on Ukrainian infrastructure. Moldovan authorities have recently reported repeated violations of the country’s airspace by Russian missiles and drones launched during attacks on Ukraine.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns in Moldova over the spillover of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
