A Russian attack drone struck Kyiv’s Northern Bridge again on Sunday morning, October 4, damaging the roadway and a heating main, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
The strike occurred at around 10:18 a.m. local time. Emergency services were sent to the scene. Video footage posted online appeared to show cars crossing the bridge when the drone struck, although the authenticity of the footage has not been independently verified.
The attack also damaged a major heating pipeline. As a result, hot water supplies were temporarily suspended in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district while repair crews worked to restore service.
Public transport services were also rerouted because of the damage. Trolleybus routes 29, 30, 31 and 47 were shortened on both sides of the Dnipro, while buses 21, 73, 101 and 114 were redirected to Darnytska Square.
Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, said Russia was continuing to target Kyiv’s bridges in an apparent effort to disrupt movement between the two banks of the Dnipro. He said Russia had been unable to destroy the bridges outright but was seeking to damage them and create disruptions.
The latest strike came a day after another Russian drone attack damaged the Northern Bridge’s roadway and trolleybus overhead network, temporarily blocking traffic from the left bank to the right bank. Two people were injured in that October 3 attack.
Russia has repeatedly targeted Kyiv’s Southern and Northern bridges since October 1, causing growing disruptions to transport across the Dnipro. Ukrainian officials have said the attacks are aimed at disrupting logistics and civilian movement across the capital.
