Russia struck Kyiv’s Southern Bridge for the second time on October 2, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. The bridge had already been closed to road traffic and metro services following previous attacks.
“Southern Bridge has been hit again,” Klitschko said, adding that emergency services were heading to the scene. He did not immediately provide details on the extent of the damage or the condition of the bridge.
The first strike on the bridge on October 2 occurred overnight. The latest attack followed several Russian drone strikes on the crossing since October 1, when drones hit areas near the bridge’s supporting structures and later damaged a bridge support and sections of the roadway and metro safety infrastructure.
The Southern Bridge, which crosses the Dnipro River, carries road traffic and the city’s Green Line metro. It remained closed following the repeated attacks, causing major disruptions to transport between Kyiv’s left and right banks.
Ukrainian authorities are assessing the condition of the bridge before allowing traffic to resume.
