Russian forces have reportedly used a new specialized warhead on a jet-powered attack drone designed to damage high-voltage power pylons and metal bridges, according to Ukrainian defense technology adviser Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnov.
Beskrestnov said the drone was equipped with a cumulative-cutting special payload known as the KRSN. The main warhead weighs about 40 kilograms and is accompanied by four separate strike modules.
The payload was specifically developed to damage metal structures, including bridge components and electricity transmission towers. Beskrestnov suggested that Russia could use such drones to target critical high-voltage power lines.
Reports about the KRSN payload emerged earlier in September, when monitoring sources said Russia was preparing new versions of its Geran attack drones with specialized warheads intended for reinforced infrastructure. Those reports identified bridges, energy facilities, pipelines and power lines among the potential targets, but said there was no official confirmation that the new warhead had entered widespread operational use.
The reported development comes as Russia continues to modify its long-range attack drones for specific types of targets. Ukrainian sources have previously reported that jet-powered Geran variants are being adapted to carry different warheads and payloads.
Beskrestnov has also said Ukraine's communications infrastructure is sufficiently distributed to prevent the country from being completely cut off from the internet even during further Russian attacks.
He previously explained that Russia was able to obtain video footage of its strike on the Inkom business center in Kyiv without using secret technologies or an intelligence network.
