A Russian attack on September 30 damaged generating equipment at the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant in Kyiv region, according to Ukraine’s Centrenergo.
Centrenergo CEO Serhii Isachenko said the company’s immediate priority was to assess the condition of the equipment and determine the scope of repairs. Specialists will begin repair work as soon as security conditions allow, he said.
The company has not disclosed further details about the damage for security reasons.
Isachenko thanked Centrenergo employees who continue working under difficult conditions. He said Russia was deliberately targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of the heating season.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the main target of Russia’s overnight combined attack was energy infrastructure in Kyiv and the surrounding region.
Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said there had effectively been no day since the summer when Russia had not attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure. He added that the September 30 barrage was the first attack of such a large and combined scale since the end of the previous heating season.
The Trypilska plant is one of Centrenergo’s major thermal power facilities in central Ukraine.
