A Russian drone struck a school building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district on October 1, causing a fire, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said.
“An UAV struck a school building in the Solomianskyi district. There is a fire. The children were in a shelter. Emergency services are heading to the scene,” Klitschko said.
No casualties were reported in his initial statement.
The strike came during another overnight Russian drone attack on Kyiv. Russian forces launched dozens of drones toward the capital from several directions, with jet-powered drones among the weapons used. Reuters reported that the broader overnight strikes on Kyiv and Odesa injured two people, one in each city.
Earlier, Russian attacks also caused a fire on the first floor of a high-rise residential building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, while a warehouse was damaged in the Obolonskyi district.
The latest barrage followed a major Russian attack on Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions on September 30, when Russia used ballistic and anti-ship missiles as well as attack drones.
