Russian drones struck near the supporting structure of Kyiv’s Southern Bridge on October 1, with two impacts reported in the area, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said.
“Two UAV impacts occurred near the supporting structure of the Southern Bridge,” Klitschko said.
Following the attack, metro and surface public transport across the bridge were temporarily suspended while specialists inspected the structure.
Trains on Kyiv’s Green Line were limited to the underground sections between Syrets and Vydubychi, and between Osokorky and Chervonyi Khutir. Buses No. 22 and 91 were rerouted via the Darnytsia railway bridge.
Kyiv authorities later said preliminary inspections found no critical damage to the bridge. Buses No. 22 and 91 subsequently resumed their normal routes, while inspections of the metro structures remained ongoing.
The bridge incident occurred during a wider Russian drone assault on Kyiv. Earlier in the attack, a Russian drone struck a school in the Solomianskyi district, where more than 100 children had taken shelter. Reuters reported that the broader overnight strikes on Kyiv and Odesa injured two people.
The October 1 attacks followed a large-scale Russian strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on September 30, which caused power outages in Kyiv and several regions.
