Russian forces struck Kharkiv with at least three guided aerial bombs on October 5, killing five people and injuring 53, including three children, Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Synehubov said.
The strikes hit the city’s Slobidskyi district, including an industrial area and a location near a residential high-rise, according to Synehubov. The attack damaged dozens of residential buildings, a civilian enterprise and at least 20 vehicles. Fires affected an area of nearly 15,000 square meters.
Among the injured were an 11-year-old girl in serious condition, a 15-year-old boy in moderate condition and a 15-year-old girl who suffered an acute stress reaction.
The bodies of two additional victims were found under the rubble of a sewing workshop, bringing the death toll from the attack to five, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. Search and rescue operations continued as authorities warned that people could still be trapped under the rubble.
Earlier reports had put the number of injured at 39, before it rose to 53 as emergency services and medical teams continued working at the strike sites.
The attack came amid continued Russian strikes on Kharkiv and the wider Kharkiv region, which have repeatedly damaged residential and civilian infrastructure.
